Learn about Student Aid Services.
Student Financial Aid Services, Inc. (SFAS) was established 20 years ago in 1991 by Michael Alexander, who previously served as the Director of Financial Aid at the University of California, Santa Barbara, University of Colorado at Boulder and Illinois State University, as well as the President of both the California Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (CASFAA) and the Colorado Association of Financial Aid Administrators (CAFAA).
Now under ownership by the Rezolve Group, the company presently employs in excess of 100 student aid advisors and specialists who provide information and services delivered both online at www.FAFSA.com and offline via two client service centers. The company assists students and families with FAFSA advice, assistance and preparation services typically delivered in the form of a one-on-one telephone consultation (or series of consultations) that can range from 25 to 50 minutes. SFAS’s advisors do all the work in preparing and completing a student’s FAFSA entirely over the phone, and our systems cross-check the data received by clients utilizing more than 450 error-checking processes. The service is multi-dimensional, aiming to help clients:
We have created the most useful college cost estimation technology in the nation and we focus every day on new ways to make that technology available for free to low income students.
We embrace clear transparency and full disclosure that our services are optional. When a student or parent contacts one of our call centers or visits our website, they are provided with messages that clearly state the following:
We provide human, professional assistance and review for each FAFSA that we prepare, and we afford all clients the opportunity to speak with a Student Aid Advisor for as long and as many times as they feel is necessary to get their FAFSA accurately completed and to answer all their financial aid questions. We realize that the FAFSA is complex and difficult for many families, and we also know that making one mistake can dramatically affect the EFC calculation and eligibility for aid, so we go to great lengths to make our clients’ filings as accurate as possible.
We do not believe in assisting students or parents to ‘game’ the financial aid system. As such, we advise families to answer the FAFSA truthfully, accurately and completely. Consequently, through our accuracy verification processes many clients realize a lower EFC, but for some the EFC is increased as a result. Unlike the current FAFSA on the Web process and associated skip logic that is undermining critical data collection, we believe in gathering all the asset data for a family so that a true and accurate financial picture of the family can be determined.
